A Christmas Story is a 1983 movie based on the short stories and semi-fictional anecdotes of author and raconteur Jean Shepherd, including material from his books In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash, and Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories. The film relates the tale of Ralphie Parker, who wants a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas and will go to any lengths to get it despite adults' admonitions of you'll shoot your eye out. It stars Darren McGavin, Melinda Dillon, and Peter Billingsley. The movie was written by Jean Shepherd and directed by Bob Clark, both of whom make cameo appearances. Shepherd also provides the voice of Santa, as well as the movie's narration from the viewpoint of an adult Ralphie.
